Another year where this blog grow further dust due to a lack of updates, stemming the backlog is needed again so 2018 will simply be reviewed in a single post with a new title and hopefully more regular updates across 2019.
March saw a vast turn-up in results with four games unbeaten draws at Trafford and Colwyn Bay sandwiched an epic win at Kendal Town and home victory over Colne. Relegation worries continued into April but a win over Ossett Albion and draws at Hyde United and Clitheroe were enough to ensure survival despite losses to Droylsden and eventual promoted sides South Shields and Bamber Bridge.
A new season and a new division in the form of Evo-Stik West started badly with August seeing three league losses to Leek Town, Kendal Town and Runcorn Linnets coupled with an FA Cup exit at Ashton Athletic. September saw a hammering at Atherton Collieries before a first point of the season coming in a draw at Glossop North End.
Defeat against Radcliffe and a double header of defeats to Trafford, the second coming on penalties in the League Cup followed before the best period of the season. Draws against Newcastle Town and Colwyn Bay were joined by a first win with success away at Radcliffe.
October saw a return to the misery with defeat to Widnes and an FA Trophy exit at Frickley Athletic before a hard fought draw at Chasetown. November saw a change in management as after losses against Ramsbottom United and Clitheroe, Dave Powell was removed and replaced by Paul McNally. Paul had a tough start with losses to Mossley and Market Drayton in the league and Liv Senior Cup exit at Lower Breck. The year ended with a draw at home to Kidsgrove before heavy losses to Leek Town and Prescot Cables before a narrow loss to Runcorn Linnets leaving United propping up the table.
Career-wise, finally after years on the outside, a real job as I became Social Media Assistant at Associated Industries which lasted from June-September as fully employed before the switch to contracting until the end of the year.
Sport
The 2018 NFL season for my followed team of Washington Redskins was a case of two halves as having reached 5-2, injuries led to a season total of 7-9. An opening 24-6 win over the Arizona Cardinals was followed by a 21-9 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. A superb 31-17 victory over the Green Bay Packers saw a crushing 43-19 loss to the New Orleans Saints. A trio of successes saw 23-17 and 20-17 wins over the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys before more divisional joy with a 20-13 win over the New York Giants. However, the joy was to end after injuries in QB especially led to just one win six games.
The 16-3 success over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers came between losses to Atlanta Falcons (38-14), Houston Texans (23-21) ahead of a trio of divisional humblings- Dallas Cowboys (31-23),Philadelphia Eagles (28-13) and New York Giants (40-16). A refreshing 16-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars was followed by a 25-16 loss to the Tennessee Titans before a horrific season ending 24-0 defeat to divisional rivals Philadelphia Eagles.
Football time now and non-attendance first in the shape of Liverpool who had a better January than the previous year with league wins over Burnley, Manchester City and Huddersfield Town and an FA Cup third round win over Everton but suffered a fourth round exit to West Bromwich Albion and a single league loss to Swansea City.
February opened drawing with Tottenham Hotspur before a win over Southampton and crushing UCL win over FC Porto before ending with a comfortable win over West Ham United. More success in March with league wins over Newcastle United, Watford and Crystal Palace, loss at Manchester United and draw with FC Porto in the UCL.
April saw an aggregate win over Manchester City and first leg advantage over Roma in the UCL while a trio of league draws against Everton, West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City sandwiched a win at Bournemouth. A mixed May saw a loss at Chelsea and win over Brighton & Hove Albion confirm fourth spot in the PL while a loss to Roma still ensured progress to the UCL Final which saw heartbreak by losing to Real Madrid.
Onto Skem United now for whom 2018 was marginally better than the previous year mainly due to no relegation this time around. A mixed January saw just three points accrued from draws at Ramsbottom United, Mosssley and a home draw with Atherton Collieries while suffering losses to Prescot Cables, Tadcaster Albion and Ossett Town. Just one further point in February with an opening draw at Bamber Bridge before a trio of losses against high flying Colne, South Shields and Scarborough Athletic before a relegation battle loss to Goole. Leisure
In terms of goals, the year saw a good haul with a total of 45 reached out of a potential 65 aka 69%. A new record month in terms of gaming came in December with a new record of 267 unlocks toppling the record of the same month in 2017. Notable goals saw the 150th game completion, 500000 TA, 300000G and the rise to 450,000 YT views. The biggest record came in attendances with a whopping 119 with a record split on both counts - 61 football (60 prev rec) and 58 Rugby League (57 prev rec) both previous records coming in separate years.Career-wise, finally after years on the outside, a real job as I became Social Media Assistant at Associated Industries which lasted from June-September as fully employed before the switch to contracting until the end of the year.
